JIMMY FROCK WITH GOLD TOOTH TRANSPORT

Who are you and where are you from?

My name is Jimmy Frock, and I’m a father and a husband. My family and I live on the Bull Shoals Lake in Northern Arkansas.

What do you do for a living?

For the last 23 years I’ve built a career as a Union pipeline welder, welding pipe, doing fabrication and running tech work for mechanized welding. I started hauling over the past year as a filler in between pipeline jobs. If I’m not on a pipeline then hotshot hauling is my full time job. My wife, Megan and I run a hotshot company called Gold Tooth Transport.

How did you get started?

During the pandemic pipeline work was slow, so I decided to get my CDL while I actually had some time off. I have a great friend who runs a dump truck and he had a friend who was a local CDL training instructor. He was a great resource in helping me obtain my CDL and understanding the rules of the road. After I had a CDL it just seemed natural to get my own carrier authority. Other than that, it’s really just been my wife and I. We dove into research and figured out most of this the hard way, by trial and error. She does all of the dispatching and secretarial work and I do the hauling.

What’s your favorite part of what you do?

The best part about hauling is getting to make my own hours. Working as pipeline welder, I’ve never been able to take off of work for special occasions. Now, with the hotshot hauling, if I want loads, we book them, and if I have other projects going on, I can take care of those instead.

How does your trailer help you get work done?

As a hotshot hauler, a quality truck and trailer are essential! My MAXX-D YHX Hydraulic Dovetail Flatbed has been great. I opted for air ride and the hydraulic dovetail. Both options that I originally did not plan to get but I am grateful I did. A majority of the loads I’ve hauled required one or the other and I feel like those features really set this trailer apart and give me a leg up against other hotshots.
