MELVIN CARILLO WITH BLACK BEAST HOTSHOT!
Striking out on your own and starting a business can be a scary thing. Melvin had been eyeing the hotshot industry for some time, and finally made his start at the beginning of the year. He found some resources, including a MAXX-D gooseneck hotshot trailer, that helped him to make it happen, and now he’s bringing home the bacon! Let’s get into it!
Who are you and where are you from?
“Hello, my name is Melvin Carrillo, and I am a Puerto Rican but I have lived in New Jersey for 10 years.
What do you do for a living?
“I own and run Black Beast Hotshot, and we do hotshot hauling in the Northeast, primarily in New Jersey and the surrounding area, staying fairly local. We haul all kinds of stuff, from materials, to containers, to equipment.”
How did you get started?
“Five months ago, I got started in the hotshot business. I always wanted to get into this business but I did not know how and together with my wife we looked for information on the internet and they told us about DAT Freight & Analytics that helps you with the whole freight process.”
“We also use Facebook Marketplace, which is where I found and bought my used MAXX-D trailer. The trailer was a used one, so it needed some maintenance and improvements, which I fixed myself.”
What’s your favorite part of what you do?
“My favorite part of what I do is that I own my time and because I stay more local, I can spend more time with my family and can create a better future for everyone at the same time.”
How does your MAXX-D gooseneck flatbed hotshot trailer help you get work done?
“I love this trailer, and it’s the first time that I have a full 40 foot long gooseneck and with all the cargo I haul, it feels super stable.”
