BLUE COLLAR HAULER NICK, GEORGE, AND MCKENZIE OF BEZATES CONSTRUCTION, INC

It's always great to see a family business thriving and this is certainly the case for the Bezates family who uses one of our dump trailers for construction on a daily basis. Let's get to their story.

WHO ARE YOU AND WHERE ARE YOU FROM?

"My name is Nick Bezates. Myself, My dad (George), and My wife (Mckenzie) own Bezates Construction Inc. Our company is based out of Beavercreek, OR but doing what we do, we travel around the northwest a fair amount."

WHAT DO YOU DO FOR A LIVING?

"We are a small contractor that does a really wide variety of work. My Dad spent the vast majority of his career in the Heavy civil industry, primarily doing earthwork and underground Utilities. That is where I have my roots as well, but I also ventured off into the welding/mechanical/and fabrication world. Currently, we do a good balance of both- but there really aren't too many projects we wouldn't take on."

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?

"My Dad started out on his own back in the 80's, and built up Bezates Construction- and in the mid-90's he semi-retired. Realizing that wasn't really his cup of tea, he went to work for a couple of different larger contractors in the area. I started working in about the 3rd grade when BCI was still based in Easter Oregon. I would work summers and breaks with him and then would eventually join him after college where we both worked together for about 10 years for another contractor. At the end of that tenure and parting ways with the company we were with, we fired Bezates Construction back up to venture out on our own again. My dad has always been my biggest supporter and resource. Without him, I wouldn't be anywhere near where I am today."

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT WHAT YOU DO?

"The variety of what we do is my favorite part. I can go from a welding project to an excavation project, to running one of our cranes, and then driving a truck all in the same week. It definitely keeps things interesting and unpredictable and eliminates the potential for monotony in jobs. I learned early on that if you are a one-trick pony for what you can do then you are at the mercy of one sector of the construction industry, so if you can do a multitude of things you are more likely to stay busy. " Nick's handy little hitch he fabricated so his excavator could pull the trailer.

HOW DOES YOUR MAXX-D DUMP TRAILER FOR CONSTRUCTION HELP YOU GET WORK DONE?

"Our dump trailer has added to our capabilities to do work by being able to control our own transport of aggregate and spoils on some of our smaller projects. It is the perfect solution for smaller projects that don't have a budget for large amounts of trucking, or when the need for off-haul will be sporadic and random. We also utilize a hitch that I built on one of our mini excavators, so the excavator can move the dump trailer along with it or from the excavation area to the excavation area without the need for a separate truck."

WHERE DID YOU BUY YOUR MAXX-D TRAILER?

"We ordered our trailer here in Portland from Trailer City. The process was awesome, and the hydraulic landing gear on the dump trailer for construction is the best part of it!"
