When a random project turns into a business opportunity, which in turn becomes a family business that allows your wife to be home with the kids and your whole family to work together, you've pretty much won the "job lottery" so to speak. A lot of people dream of being able to make a go of it, but few are willing to take the leap and put in the work to make it happen. This Blue Collar Hauler did, and we'd say the payoff has been worth it.

Let's get on to Sean's story!

WHO ARE YOU AND WHERE ARE YOU FROM?

I’m Sean and we’re Junkit, a family-owned and operated small business in a pretty quiet but rapidly growing city of Beaumont, CA.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?

We started the idea in 2021 after my aunt needed her patio demoed and I had no trailer to haul it away. Shortly after, my mother-in-law needed some trash hauled from her remote home in Chino Valley, AZ. So we needed a way to haul her trash and just have a multi-purpose trailer, in general, available for use when we needed it in the future. We purchased our first MAXX-D 16ft utility trailer in February 2022. We quickly realized it started turning into a business and a rapidly growing business at that. We needed something that would allow us to expand beyond just another trailer. So what better than to buy the most hooked-up MAXX-D roll-off system with a couple of bins to start. It would then allow us to purchase essentially an unlimited amount of bins for our business. We purchased all of our MAXX-D equipment in Beaumont, CA at Alliance Trailer. They’ve been great and have helped our business flourish.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF WHAT YOU DO?

Helping customers get rid of their junk. I truly love what we do and why we do it. Helping the community have an easier way to get rid of their junk and help them if they’re unable to do it has been the best part. Within 14 months of starting Junkit, my wife was able to quit her job to help with the business and stay home with the kids. Junkit has made me realize that we’re all only here a short time and none of us can take anything with us when we pass, that so many of us hold onto a lot of stuff in our life that will likely just end up in a landfill. When we remove the junk that has been held onto for so long and take it to the dump, it’s like hitting the confirmation button for “Are you sure you want to permanently delete this?” The answer is always going to be Yes.

HOW DOES YOUR MAXX-D TRAILER HELP YOU GET WORK DONE?

Just the fact that it’s a dumpster roll-off trailer which makes it useful in many different ways, it doesn’t limit the number of bins I can have. It definitely helps make the work we do a lot easier with the extra features I upgraded on the roll-off.
